Don’t Make “Over”…Make “Better”!

9 Sep

After a long year of wedding planning, stress eating, and a lot of weight fluctuation all of the craziness is finally over and I can focus on my health relatively stress free. YAY!

First things first, I’m starting the Flat Belly Diet again. With a full time job (that means regular hours!) we’re able to budget for a meal plan! It really made a difference the first time around and I’m super excited to jump back into it.

Flat Belly Diet

Things that have changed:

  • I now understand how to successfully make a pita!
  • I’m going to take out the things I don’t like. (Ew…olive tapenade.)
  • I’m going to focus more on doing exercised I enjoy, for longer, than for trying to achieve the best results FASTER. I’m thinking more quality over quantity this time around.
  • I’ve been keeping up with my portion control which has made a big difference in how I feel on a daily basis.
  • I have ALSO been keeping up with taking a multivitamin. Keeping my iron levels up also makes a ginormous difference when it comes to how active I feel like being from day to day.

Since Cale is training for firefighting we are both waking up at 5:30 every morning. Him to go for a run or work on something specific (legs, arms, abs, etc.) and for the last week, I’ve just been waking up and lying in bed trying to get back to sleep. WELL NO MORE! I read up on the Elle Make Better Program (http://ellemakebetter.com/) and decided to check out Workout Yoga DVD. The DVD claims that I’ll have a better body in 21 days. Aha. I’m not counting on a complete transformation but if I get even a little more flexible I’ll consider that an accomplishment. I especially liked the extras on the DVD.  2 surprise yoga workouts, tips on how to rework your closet and revamp some old styles, plus nutrition info (which is usually REALLY lacking when it comes to workout DVD’s.). It was also kind of fun to watch the interviews with the model AND the fitness trainer. I’m liking it so far.

Workout Yoga

Doing the DVD every morning, paired with hour long back-to-back yoga and pilates sessions at my local Recreation Centre on Sundays and a ladies Bikrams Yoga session one day a week after work should have me feeling pretty good by the end of September.

Sungod! My local Rec Centre.

I’m really ramping up the yoga and pilates for this round of LET’S GET HEALTHY! I’m trying to stick with what works and I enjoy both quite a lot so I figured they were a good place to start. I find that when I weight train I don’t stick with the cardio enough to back it up and I end up weighing more in the end. This way, I’ll be building lean muscle and incorporating the cardio from the DVD, plus lifting at work (where I’m a shipper/receiver.). We’ll see how it goes!

I’ve also been introduced to the Nutrition Diva Podcast. It’s a super informative, short podcast I can listen to on the bus or at work full of awesome tips and tricks and things I would never have thought of. You can find her website here:

Excerpt from “Is Seaweed Good For You?”:

Trying to get more vegetables into your diet but getting bored with broccoli and spinach? There’s a whole category of super-nutritious vegetables you may be overlooking. Sea vegetables, otherwise known as seaweed, are a great way to add variety to your five-a-day routine. You can add sea vegetables to soups or stir-fries or make a seaweed salad instead of the same old tossed salad.  (I’ve included my own recipe for seaweed salad in this week’s Nutrition Diva newsletter.) You can even use seaweed to make nutritious—and addictive—chips to snack on.”

THANKS NUTRITION DIVA!!!!

We’re also trying to up our activity level when we’re with friends! So if you want to go hiking, biking, walking, laser tagging, tennis playing or WHATEVER please recruit us!

I always get excited about health developments. I think this is going to go well.
